This is a step-by-step guide for installing DS Loader onto an Amazon Fire TV stick.
The instructions also apply to most other Android and Google TV devices where user input is limited.
1. Enable Developer Options and turn on USB Debugging
Enter settings and select My Fire TV. On other devices, look for About.
On the information screen click the device name 5 times. On other devices, click the build number.
When complete, Developer Options will appear.
Click Developer options and turn on USB Debugging.
2. Sideload DS Loader from an Android phone
Download the DS Loader APK from your digital signage partner on to your phone.
This is listed after pressing +Screen in the admin interface. E.g.
https://stacks.targetr.net/ds-loader.apk
Open the Google Play store on your phone and install an app called Easy Fire Tools.
Open Easy Fire Tools, click custom APK file and select the DS Loader APK file.
Click the following button to search for the Fire TV Stick on your local network.
Click the entry matching the Fire TV Stick to connect.
You may need to approve permission on the Fire TV Stick before you can connect for the first time:
Finally, click Install within the Easy Fire Tools app on your phone.
3. Launch DS Loader
Find the following icon on the Fire TV menu to launch DS Loader.
DS Loader is now running and ready to be linked to a screen entry in the admin interface.
Auto start and keep running
DS Loader will automatically start when the device is switched or after the app stops for 1 minute.
To exit DS Loader and briefly take control, you can click home or back 5 times quickly.
Security Recommendation
Disable USB Debugging after installing DS Loader if other devices are on your local network you do not trust. It is also recommended you uninstall all other installed apps for security.
Uninstalling DS Loader
Enter the Applications menu in Android settings.
Select DS Loader and choose uninstall
